Christmas in and around Marbella I was asking by a friend what it’s like in Marbella during Christmas week? Well a lot and nothing. Basically, winter time in Marbella is boring. It’s quiet and empty. A lot of restaurants and nearly all the nice beach Chiringuitos are closed. The old town is nearly empty at all. Marbella and specially Puerto Banus it’s not what it is in summer time. Weather could be nice, up to 20 degrees at daytime, but nights are very cold. But you can have lunch outside sitting with only a T-shirt on. Winter in Marbella is good for golfers, and that’s it. But let’s go back to Xmas time. A lot of the available restaurant have Christmas lunch and dinner parties at the 24th 25th and 26th! it’s good to make a reservation to be on save side. Corona virus situation in Marbella

The current situation of the Corona Virus in Marbella; Unfortunately, the situation on the Costa del Sol has deteriorated in recent days. With around 400 cases in Andalusia alone, the situation has become very critical. All tourists to the Costa del Sol are advised to return to their home country. Many flights from Spain to other countries are prohibited. The famous marina Puerto Banus is closed for the next 2 weeks. From tomorrow Monday, the 16th of March, the same applies to the area around Marbella as to the rest of Spain. Curfew for everyone except for urgent errands such as grocery shopping or visiting a pharmacy. Sunbathing on the beach is also prohibited. Golf courses have closed and the restaurants are only allowed to deliver food. It is strongly advised not to travel to Marbella. This provision is valid for 15 days. Then you will see how to proceed. It is a nasty surprise for the local owners and event organizers now that the season should open soon everything has to remain closed. Costa del Sol gets ready to open for summer season 2020!

The Spanish government has shared its plans to open up the country in 4 steps beginning from 2nd of May 2020 The Spanish government announced this Thursday evening that there will be partial relaxation. On the Costa del Sol you may already from Saturday the second may go for a walk and do sports alone or with persons living in the same house between 6 and 10 a.m. and also between 20 and 23 o’clock. But only within a distance of one kilometre from home. This regulation is valid until 11 May, after that, phase 1 will be introduced and the rules will be announced later. It is hoped that by the beginning of the summer season in July, all restrictions will be lifted to encourage tourism. Already two weeks ago many beach clubs in and around Marbella would have wanted to open the 2020 season, but due to the Corona crisis this was not possible.
